Case study: TecMilenio University

The TecMilenio University in Culiacán, Sinaloa, México, was looking for a facade solution that would provide solar control and modernize the building’s image, while also fulfilling the objective of the use of sustainable and durable materials. At the start of the project, the client had considered a 3-layer facade solution that would simulate a mesh of lines, but Astyl provided a customized solution using their Perforart product with Picto technology in a single layer.

To achieve the Voronoi diagram design, the images were fed into Astyl’s softwares, which uses a mathematical algorithm based on critical variables to assign different diameters to the perforations and generate the desired image. The project was worked on iteratively to meet the solar control requirements that were sought.

Finally, aluminum with a natural anodized coating was chosen as the ideal material for the application due to its long-lasting and low maintenance characteristics. The customized facade solution not only fulfilled an esthetic function but also added value and high impact to the university building.
