Case study: Totem Citadel

The Project

Citadel is a shopping mall that connects three municipalities: Apodaca, Guadalupe and San Nicolás in Nuevo León, México. Currently it has more than 72 stores and has a large number of visitors daily.

Expectation

The client, through the architectural firm Viewport, was looking for a metal totem that meet several requirements: visibility from anywhere in the area, durability and low maintenance, an attractive design that quickly get people’s attention.

The Astyl product

A design from our Peforart range with Picto technology was used. This allowed to create a visual pattern according to the level and expectation of the project. The aluminum was chosen as the material and the finish was electrostatic painting (our finishes are certificated by AAMA2604 & AAMA2605). This to meet the requirements of long durability and low maintenance.

The process

A 3D model of the totem was worked on in a design software. This was done iteratively  to make sure we met all the client’s requirements. During the process, we collaborated with the architectural firm Viewport whose presence was key to overcoming the challenges presented in the project.

 The final result

The metal totem is covered with architectural metal panels by Astyl and contains a giant screen inside. Its perforation pattern is striking and allows the passage of the sun’s rays, which creates an effect of light and shadow that changes throughout the day. The metal totem not only highlights the aesthetics and relevance of the mall, it has also been included in tourist routes and has become a point of reference for the inhabitants of the area.
